This course is designed to support staff and individuals who work in known high-risk areas where the need to manage situations of challenging behaviour through the use of ‘dynamic risk’ assessments is a known risk factor. Physical Intervention is recognised terminology, but can mean various different intervention or holds. Physical intervention should only be used when absolutely necessary. This course covers theory and practical session and is bespoke depending on your risk assessment.
Course Content:
- The law in relation to use of physical intervention
- Understand the terms necessary, proportionate and reasonable
- Understand the use of personal space, posture and positioning
- Respond lawfully to grabs and other physical provocation
- Demonstrate physical intervention (non-restrictive and restrictive) techniques
- Learn appropriate de-escalation and welfare care measures
- Post incident (reporting and welfare support) review
